I first started putting money with an Advisor back in the '70 and also joined a group at work that had formed an investment club. The investment group talk about different companies and somone would be assigned to "research" that company and report back next month. Each month, every member contributed a set amount......and that would get invested.....after a group vote. Some meeting would get very interesting.
Back then, using an Advisor was about the only way to invest......had to mostly trust their advise, because it was very time consuming to try and research a company. Now days, using the internet you can get more information in 1 hour than you could find in a months searching. Over 20 year time, I used several different companys and a bunch of Advisors. A couple were fairly good, some ok but most were fairly new "Advisors" and just learning. Kind of reminds me of typical car salesmen. Eager to get you money, but short on knowledge. I could tell you some "bad" stories of some of my experiences working with Finicancial Brokers. My advise......It is your money.....so watch it carefully. I have made my own investing decisions for the past 20+ years and "retired" 10 years ago.....young enough to enjoy what I like.....hunting and fishing. |

Gerald is right! Its your money, and you need to know what you are doing with your money. Internet has become a great tool for researching investments.
Its my job (or should be any brokers) to help you make informed decisions, not to push products. |

Regional Trust Manager for Whitney Bank & Financial Consultant for Whitney Securities & Investments.
Target funds are ok. They way they work is they rebalance themselves annually, getting more & more conservative the closer you get to the retirement date. Good in theory, but most of them underperform with respect to the market. PS - Thanks for the compliment B-stealth! |

just trying to get a direction.
I am a Whitney customer for many years through the First National acquisition in Gonzales. I have a Fidelity 401K. PM me when you get a little time if you are okay with that. |
