Trawling.......

I was just out back in the man cave being bord and I was going threw some stuff and fount my trawl that I began working on, I was just curious if any one else does one of my faviorte things to do make crab nets or trawls? This was my first one.. My dad had started it a few years back butt he quickly gave up on it. So I took it over and now it is six feet long, talk about some work, I can't tell you how many late nights I stayed back there saying to my self "just one more row off knots". I learned this net making threw my dad and he grew up in a little town i'm sure some of you herd off, Bucktown. Well a old shrimper thought him then he thought me, I learned from a pretty young age, ten. I was also wondering is any one else would like to learn, i'm thinking about making a you tube video..

i always wanted to learn that. i can remember my grandpa doing it, but i never sat down to learn it. it would sure help when i need to patch my net!!

I haven't sewed in a trawl in over 20 years. I used to help my dad and grandfather when I was in school. I went in the oilfield after school and got out of it. My grandfather still shrimps at 84 years old and is so ornery when it comes to someone helping him, that I stay away when he is working with webbing. I don't miss the blisters I used to get but I did enjoy sewing the webbing.

I remember watching my dad sew hoop nets,when I was little. he would make 4 and 5 footers,and sew every not. It was an exciting day when he found a place to buy the webbing and just have to sew it onto the hoops.

Never thought about it, but I love learning stuff like that. anything done in the old days, I enjoy learning how to do. So far I've learned butter making, wine making, smoking meats, and got several books on various other things I want to learn. Id like to learn how to make a trawl

I learned how to make all kinds of breads, so very easy to do and so much better than store bought. Also mayonnaise, so easy and delicious.

Yeah it whouldent be nothing for me to make a video, butt you live on the east side right? You could see it first hand if ya like. I'm only 15 but can keep up with the best of them But consider there's not many to keep up with now Also I could brew a batch of beer with my eyes closed that's another thing my dad and I got into a few years back. Nothing like 15 gallons of homebrew!

one time we had capped about 4 cases of homebrew,and we didn't squeeze the caps tight enough, about 2 weeks later it sounded like fireworks going off. also learned how to make homemade vanilla,really easy,just takes awhile.

You don't sew the whole net...
You buy the webbing and make a net with the webbing.
That will take you years to make a 16 ft. net if you make it from scratch.

I know this, but....... My dad started on it and he got about two feet of it and he was feed up with it, but then I took over now it's about seven feet. I forgot to say i'm just using this net to catch some shrimps during the summer for bait...

Well i'm in the New Orleans area, but go up that way about every other weekend to my cuz camp on the tangy, maybe we go rip some lips on them bass, then sit out back and make a few nets
