Exclamation New Boating Regulations

BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION REQUIRED
No person born after January 1, 1984, shall operate a motorboat powered by a motor in excess of ten horsepower unless he has successfully completed a boating safety class approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). A person who has completed an approved boating safety class shall be in possession of evidence of such completion when operating such a boat.
This law is effective July 1, 2010

Lake Charles Sail And Power Squadron decided last night to have another class before the deadline of July 1, 2010. They are looking at May 22nd, which is the first weekend of National Safe Boating Week.
No formal announcement has been made, but I was in the meeting when they decided on a date. So get ready. The classes may be pretty full since it is close to the deadline.
They are going to make announcements in the newspapers and KPLC TV. Registration can be done at Ship to Shore on Lake St. or at the email in the following website:

La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries teaches the class.
Lake Charles Sail and Power Squadron teaches the class.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary did, but I don't see them much anymore.
Or you can go to the the following website: http://www.americasboatingcourse.com..._highlites.htm

The link in the original post has the info. to take it in Lake Charles. The dates have not been updated yet. The webmaster's wife is in the hospital in Baton Rouge right now.

If you don't want to sign up, you can just show up at the building with the blue metal room on the North side of I-120, just East of the 210 boat launch on the morning of May 22nd. Right now, it is $5, to cover the cost of pizza and cold drinks for lunch.

Lake Charles Sail and Power Squadon is having another class on June 19th.
Check with Ship to Shore. Sharon is setting up the classes. She has the sign up sheet.
