[Ray]

General outlook
The good news is that warming water temperatures and a stretch of calmer days produced better speckled trout fishing. The bad news is the weekend weather guess calls for plenty of rain and thunderstorms Saturday, followed by a blustery Sunday. But temperatures will remain in the upper 70s into next week, which should help speck fishing going into April. We may be back on schedule after a tough winter.

Delacroix Isle
Specks, reds. Best spots: Four Horse Lake, Pointe Fienne, Little Lake John, Lake Batolo, Pointe Fienne, Second Bay, Wreck Bay. Best baits: sparkle beetles (green) drifting in shallow water under a cork; DOA under a cork, shrimp, cockahoes, Saltwater Assassin (Opening Night), plastic cockahoes (blue/clear).

Hopedale
Reds, a few trout. Best spots: Trout starting to show at Lake Coquille, Mozambique, Lake Ameda; reds at the dam, islands around Coquille, Lake of the Trees, the rocks, the dam, Muscle Bay, Stump, Muscelini, St. Malo, Crooked Bayou. Best baits: live minnows, plastics, dead shrimp.

Reggio
Reds, specks, drum. Best spots: Reds and specks in Bayou Batolo, Tanasia's, Lake Amadee, Reggio Canal, Lake Amadee. Best baits: live cockahoes, sparkle beetles (smoke, chartreuse/red tail).

Shell Beach
Reds, some specks. Best spots: A few trout between Jahncke's Ditch and St. Malo, The Dam, MR-GO cuts, Lena's, Stump, Bayou Sue, Bayou St. Malo. Best baits: fresh shrimp, gold spoons, plastics on the bottom.

Bayou Bienvenue
Reds, a few specks, sheepshead, drum. NOTE: Construction of a temporary bridge at the floodgates will restrict access clearance to 14 feet for several weeks. Best spots: A few specks on outside edge of the Hot Water Slip, a few along the rocks at Boh Brothers, Michoud Slip; Violet Locks, Bayou Bienvenue locks, pipeline cuts off the Intracoastal. Best baits: live cockahoes, market bait, plastics.

The Chef
Reds. Best spots: Lake St. Catherine shorelines, Lake Borgne from Alligator Point to Chef, inside Star Bayou, The McGills, Bob, Platt. Best baits: fresh shrimp, Deadly Dudley Terror Tail (Blue Moon), Gulp! (glo); reds hitting gold spoons.

The Rigolets
Reds, drum, a few trout. Best spots: Lake St. Catherine shorelines, Twin Spans. Best baits: Deadly Dudley Bay Chovie (Opening Night), Terror Tail (Blue Moon), DOA, Gulp!

Lake Pontchartrain
Best spots: Best trout action still along the north end of Causeway; some on the Trestles, around Marquez; drum and sheepshead along the Trestles and Highway 11 bridge. Best baits: fresh shrimp, Deadly Dudley Terror Tail (chartreuse); market bait.

Lafitte
Reds. Best spots: Plum Point, Bay L'ours, The Windmill, Brusle Lake, The Pen. Best baits: market shrimp, plastic cockahoes (glo/chartreuse), gold spoons.

Myrtle Grove
Reds: Bayou Dupont, Bay Racquette, Lake Hermitage, Bay Laurier. Best baits: plastics under a cork, gold spoons, market shrimp under a cork.

Pointe a la Hache
Trout limits were caught Wednesday. Best spots: Whiskey Bay, Bay Crabbe, Second, Third, Pointe Fienne, Pointe a la Hache Bay, Cox Bay, Bay de Coquille, Grand Point Bay, Bay Law. Best baits: fresh shrimp on sparkle beetles (chartreuse, purple, root beer), Tsunami (perch, chartreuse/cockahoe tail).

Empire-Buras
Reds. Best spots: Bay August, California Bay, Grand Bayou shorelines, canals off Bay Lanaux. Best baits: Deadly Dudley Copper Head (Blue Moon/chartreuse tail), H&H plastic cockahoe (glo/chartreuse).

Venice
Mostly reds, but some good-size trout. Best spots: Redfish Bay, Blind Bay, Dixon Bay; Southwest Pass rocks, Yellow Cotton, Bay Tambour. Best baits: Deadly Dudley Copper Head with gold spinner blades; plastic cockahoes (black/chartreuse) on the bottom with fresh shrimp; gold spoons.

Grand Isle-Fourchon
Reds, drum, sheepshead, a few specks. Best spots: Louisiana 1 Canal between Leeville and Grand Isle, Elmer's Island, some specks on the barrier islands. Best baits: market bait, plastic cockahoes (purple/white tail, motor oil), sparkle beetles (with shrimp), gold spoons.

Offshore
General outlook: Hot and cold, but on the good days, great fishing for yellowfin tuna; makos on the schools of making mackerel, amberjack, wahoos, groupers. Best spots: 12-Mile Rigs, 24-mile Rigs, Horseshoe Rigs, as well as the 299 area, South Pass 93, West Delta 117, 133, 143. The Lumps also had some fish.

Freshwater
General outlook: Bass, some sac-a-lait.

St. Bernard
Bass. Best spots: Bayou Terre aux Boeufs; Reggio Canal, Lake Lery, Grand Lake, Spanish Lake area, Back Levee canal, Oak River, Caernarvon canals, Howard's Ditch. Best baits: plastic worms (purple, Tequila, pumpkin seed), DOA (glo).

Lafitte
Bass. Best spots: The Pen, Blue Point, Service Canal, The Temple, Mecom; some action in Lake Cataouatche grass beds and Tank Pond. Best baits: humdinger (black and gold, mulitcolor), plastic worms (red shad), spinner baits (white and chartreuse).

North Shore
Bass some sac-a-lait. Best spots: Bayou Liberty, Bayou Lacombe, Geohagen's Canal. Best baits: spinner baits (yellow/chartreuse), plastic worms (Tequila), live shiners.

Venice
Bass. Best spots: canes off Sawdust Bend, Main Pass, Octave, Pass a Loutre. Best baits: flippin pig-n-jigs, spinner baits.

I haven't been to the bay in a while, I wonder what the water is like right now.

it'll get good some days bad the next. depends a lot on the winds but within the last two weeks i saw the salinity go up to 11 and stick around 5. But on low tide the salinity goes with it all the way down to nothing
