OT: Anyone ever take someone to small claims court?

I had the neighbor across the street from me hire a man to cut her grass. While he was cutting the grass he hit a rock that ruined my front door. He told me he was going to pay and then reneged. Police told me it was an act of god. I said to them god isn't stupid and doesn't mow with the guard up on his lawnmower. I tried to take him to small claims court but a lawyer friend of mine told me if I was to win in small claims court I was responsible for getting the money out of him. I cornered him one day and was getting ready to go to jail when my dog got loose out of the house and proceeded to run in the road and all I saw of him after that was him running as fast as he could. Morel of the story is the law is for the crooks and if anyone ever breaks anything of mine again while mowing they will pay for it on the spot in one way or another.
