Human scent and lures and fishing?

there definitely is something to it, my uncle used to carry a bottle of green stuff on the boat to wash his hands to be sure there was no bug spray, wd40, gas, oil smell, or anything like that on his hands.

as long as you make sure your hands are clean I don't think just holding the bait puts any odor on the bait detectible by the fish

Didn't the old timers scent their baits with WD40 back in the day?

yes and it works on croakers, drum, and hardheads.

my cousin even sprayed just a plain empty hook and he caught a fish on it just to show me it worked.

I guess its just a smell fish like or maybe it was the oil sheen it gives off

I didn't mean to imply it was a bad smell, just that my uncle didn't want ANY smell on his hands because the fish can smell it.

and the stuff he used was called green magic (not green stuff), not sure where he got it but it was always kept onboard as part of his boats tool kit
