My father use to take me out to the rigs and fish we where in a 1980 17 foot deep V center console Hydra Sport with a 115 Merc on it we would fish with 6 to 8 foot swells taking several over the bow and I survived and I would do anything to go do it again

People have fished grand bayou (the weirs) in aluminum boats for years.
Sounds like you guys just want a little more room for your
24ft 60,000 dollar boat. Hurts to see that guy in a 5,000 rig out fish
You and all your equipment. I remember when a trowlling
Motor was s sculling paddle or a push pole..ya have fun now..

Dude, you missing the point, I live at Heberts marina and I can not count the amount of small boats that I have seen hauled in by the Sheriffs department or by good folks. I have had plenty of aluminum boats in my time, it has nothing to do with what I paid for my rig, it's common sense. Ask the Cameron parish sheriffs department how much tax payers money, my money and others here that has gone to pulling these idiots in.

Dude nobody in a $60k boat wants to fish the freaken weirs....

Aluminium boats get sunk all year by stupid ignorant people who think they can run to the weirs in 30mph winds....and they noise dive and fill there boat up..

Hell I took two over the front that same day in a 22ft boat

And there was a family that was pulled in by a 24ft 60k boat because they took on so much water they could not get on step..

So keep your idiotic comments to your self

Typical holiday weekend. Williams boat launch in Kenner had a good one yesterday. Come over the levve and you see a big group by one back down.. My wife asked what was going on. I told her just watch and be quiet. Evidently they backed up too quick and when boat slid off the tilt pin pulled loose on trailer. Transom and motor under at launch. About 6-8 kids with a maybe 16 boat center console. Lake was way too rough for it to begin with. I overheard one saying his dad is going to kill him. Hope sheriffs dept is at every launch today and tomorrow with breathalisers. Atleast keep the idiots sober.

I've seen plenty of $60,000 boats fighting to get a spot at the weirs. Maybe you need to take your own advice.

What is the cutoff price of boats that can, under big lakes hand picked bylaws, legally fish the weirs? I hardly ever fish the weirs, but sometimes go that direction. I would hate to get caught there over the limit price wise.

Default depends

it all depends on the style of boat, type of hull, height of sides etc etc..... theres a huge difference between a 16 ft flat bottom jon boat with 18 in sides trying to cross teh lake and a 16 ft semi-v with a 15degree front bow with 25 in sides..... you just have to know your equipments limitations... aluminum is just as capable as fiberglass and in my opinion preferential for fishing inshore waters down in the marsh....just my .02
